Tuesday, August 24, 1993 Wisconsin Winters Hard On Monkeys
Wisconsin State Journal
(Recall that the monkeys had been at the zoo since 1963. Inside information suggests that the additional winter protection provided was the result of a female researcher, who was studying the monkeys at the zoo, beginning an illicit affair with the primate center director. She was able to cajole him into this and other improvements in the care of the monkeys at the zoo.)

(Not specific to UW. But similar claims -- which amount to nothing more than PR-hype abound in the popular press and when local papers include such claims, they serve to build support for primate experimentation. The primate labs do not encourage a retrospective evaluation of such claims.)
