WKOW, ABC, Channel 27. Fri 06/30/2006 - UW-Madison police suspect a convicted drug dealer is responsible for breaking into the UW Primate lab and stealing videotapes of testing on animals. A search warrant filed with Dane County Court states a man, 28, has confessed to burglarizing the research facility June 23. Court records show officers seized drug paraphanalia in a search of the man's home, but no videotapes. Records also show the videotapes contained footage of EKG testing on primates. Animal rights activists have attempted to buy a building next to the research facility to display exhibits of alleged animal research cruelty. Police officials have returned no phone calls on the burglary investigation. 27 News is not naming the man identified in court documents because he has not been arrested, nor criminally charged.
